In order to become an Associate of the Institute applicants must be able to demonstrate that they hold at least 100 membership points. Points are awarded based on an applicant’s qualifications and experience. The points are awarded as follows:
Experience: Minimum 1 year (20 pts per year)
Qualifications: If qualification approved by LPI (80 pts) . Note: it is not mandatory to hold a qualification.
Reference confirming experience (mandatory): Manager/client sign off. Must have worked on a minimum of 2 performance development projects (20 pts per project)
Applicants awarded Associate status will be afforded the post-nominal's ALPI. Applicants can join at Associate level from £87.50 for 12 months membership.

In order to become a full Member of the Institute applicants must be able to demonstrate that they hold at least 200 membership points. Points are awarded based on an applicant’s qualifications and experience. The points are awarded as follows:
Experience: Minimum 3 years (20 pts per year)
Qualifications: If approved qualification (80 pts). If no approved qualification must have minimum of 5 years’ performance development experience (100 pts). Note: it is not mandatory to hold an approved qualification
Reference confirming experience (mandatory): Manager/client or Fellow sign off. Must have minimum of 3 training/ performance projects that they have led (40 pts per project)
CPD that may count towards membership points: Has given time to LPI: for example, presenting webinar (40 pts), contributor to LPI online/offline networking groups (40 pts), article published (30 pts), assisted on LPI projects (40 pts)
Applicants awarded full Member status will be afforded the post-nominal's MLPI. Applicants can join at full Membership level from £97.50 for 12 months membership. Join now
In order to become a Fellow of the Institute applicants must be able to demonstrate that they hold at least 400 membership points. Points are awarded based on an applicant’s qualifications and experience. The points are awarded as follows:
Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience (20 pts per year), including 6 months as an LPI Member
Qualification: If approved qualification (80 pts). If no approved qualification must have minimum of 7 years’ experience. Note: it is not mandatory to hold an approved qualification (but is recommended)
Reference confirming experience (mandatory): Manager sign off. Must have minimum of 4 training/ performance projects that they have managed (40 pts per project); Fellow sign off
CPD that may count towards membership points: Has given time to LPI: for example, presenting webinar (40 pts), speaking at a conference (40 pts), helping with LPI online/offline networking groups (40 pts), article published (30 pts), assisted on LPI projects (40 pts)
Mandatory CPD*: Must achieve a minimum of 40 pts CPD in the year. These can include those above as well as: Attended Learning Live (40 pts); presented an LPI Masterclass webinar (50 pts); or webinar (40 pts); attended approved conference (20 pts) – eg Learning Technologies, HRD, eLearning Guild, Educa or Online Educa; published article or white paper (30 pts); winner (Gold, Silver or Bronze) at The Learning Awards (individual award) (60pts) or shortlisted for individual award (40 pts); attended LPI approved course (40 pts)
